Peugeot welcomes car scrappage scheme
A new cash incentive to encourage motorists to scrap their old car for new has been introduced by the Government.
From mid-May, owners of cars that are more than ten years old will be able to scrap them and get £2,000 towards buying a brand new vehicle. The car scrappage scheme – a first for the UK market and welcomed by Peugeot – was confirmed in Alistair Darling’s Budget on 22nd April. In the £300 million programme, the Government will give customers £1,000 when they scrap their old vehicle – which must have been registered before 31st July 1999. Car manufacturers will provide the remaining £1,000 discount.
The programme follows similar moves by major European countries, including France and Germany.
