The third-generation all-new Nissan LEAF represents a bold leap forward in Nissan’s electrification strategy, evolving from the world’s first mass-market electric vehicle into a sleek, high-tech crossover built for today’s drivers. Produced in Sunderland, UK, under Nissan’s EV36Zero initiative, which focuses on zero-emission mobility, renewable energy use, and a localised battery supply chain. The all-new LEAF combines extended range, faster charging, aerodynamic styling, and innovative technology. European development and testing were conducted at Nissan’s R&D centre in Bedfordshire, ensuring the LEAF meets local market expectations while also reaffirming its role as a pioneer in the electric vehicle (EV) market.
Engineered for flexibility and performance, the new LEAF offers two battery options: a standard 52kWh unit delivering up to 270 miles (pending homologation), and an extended 75kWh battery offering up to 375 miles (pending homologation). For longer trips, its 150kW DC fast-charging capability allows the car to recover up to 260 miles of range in just 30 minutes. Even at motorway speeds of 130 km/h, the LEAF provides over 205 miles of range, enabling 500+ mile journeys with minimal time differences compared to internal combustion engine vehicles.
A key innovation is its intelligent battery thermal management, which optimises charging performance across temperatures. This system works coordinated with the Google Maps route planner, pre-conditioning the battery when nearing a fast charger. This ensures maximum efficiency and speed at every stop.
The LEAF also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, enabling it to power small appliances or electronic devices, ideal for camping or outdoor activities, with up to 3.6kW of output using an adapter. Additionally, it is Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) ready, positioning it to contribute energy back to the grid in the future, supporting both sustainability and lower energy costs.
Designed at Nissan’s Global Design Studio in Atsugi, Japan, the all-new LEAF's sleek, aerodynamic crossover shape features a low drag coefficient of 0.25. Design highlights include a flowing roofline, flush door handles, full underfloor covering, and 3D rear lamps, all contributing to improved efficiency and a high-tech road presence.
Despite its compact exterior, ideal for city driving, the LEAF offers a roomy, flexible interior. It boasts 437 litres of boot space, a configurable cargo area, an optional power boot hatch, and roof rails for added storage options. The panoramic dimming glass roof, premium materials, and ambient lighting elevate the in-cabin experience.
Drivers can choose from seven exterior colours, including a signature Luminous Teal, with interior trims available in black or white featuring purple accents. Alloy wheel options range from 18 to 19 inches; all designed to improve aerodynamics and subtly incorporate Nissan’s design heritage.
Built on the CMF-EV platform shared with the Nissan ARIYA, the all-new LEAF uses a MacPherson front suspension and a multi-link rear setup to deliver a balanced, comfortable ride. It is equipped with a suite of advanced driver assistance features designed to enhance safety and ease:
ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link: Maintains speed, follows curves, and adjusts to speed limits on motorways
e-Pedal Step: Enables smooth one-pedal driving in urban environments
Adjustable regenerative braking: Controlled via paddle shifters or automatically via Intelligent Distance Control
3D Around View Monitor: Includes Invisible Hood View and Front Wide View for better visibility in tight spaces
Standard safety systems: Such as Lane Keep Assist, Intelligent Cruise Control, and a Driver Monitor System
Seamless Connectivity for Everyday Life
The LEAF offers a fully connected experience powered by Google built-in, providing access to Maps, Assistant, and the Play Store via dual 14.3-inch screens. Voice controls allow hands-free operation of navigation, climate, and media, while the NissanConnect Services app lets users remotely manage charging, monitor battery status, pre-condition the cabin, and plan routes.
For audio enthusiasts, the available BOSE® Personal® Plus system delivers immersive sound, with a unique headrest speaker for navigation and call prompts that will not interrupt music playback. Continuous over-the-air software updates ensure the car stays current with the latest features and enhancements.
Customer orders for the all-new Nissan LEAF will open in Autumn 2025, with first deliveries expected in Spring 2026.
