Nissan announce plan to bring range extending hybrid tech to Europe

Nissan reveal this month that they plan to delivery range extending hybrid tech to Europe by 2022.

Nissan plan to bring their ‘e-Power’ system which is currently available in Japan on various models, over to European markets by 2022. The system uses a power generator, an inverter, a battery and an electric motor all in cahoots with a petrol engine to achieve great fuel economy with lower emissions than a conventional combustion engine.

The IMq concept which was unveiled at the Geneva motor show this year, uses a beefed-up version of the e-power system by pairing a 335bhp dual electric motor system with a 1.5-litre range extending petrol engine of unknow output.

The IMq was designed to visually embody the next generation of Nissan vehicles, so you can expect to see a toned-down version of the IMq’s running gear in the next-generation Qashqai e-Power.

Stay tuned for more information.
