Powering the new model is a revised version of the existing 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the last Qashqai. It now features 12v mild-hybrid technology and is available with 140PS and 160PS. CO2 emissions start from 143g/km for the two-wheel-drive manual 140PS version.

Next year an E-Power version will be added to the range and will be driven by an electric motor but features a 1.5-litre petrol engine to keep the battery charged. This model will be the most powerful with a 190PS output.

All models are equipped with Nissan's driver assistance and safety package, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and blind spot monitor.

Visia grade also includes LED headlights, while stepping up to Accenta Premium introduces alloy wheels, electric folding door mirrors, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system and reversing camera. N-Connecta benefits from larger 18-inch alloys, privacy glass, a digital instrument cluster and a nine-inch central touchscreen. The Tekna grade introduces 19-inch alloys, power tailgate, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a glass roof, while the range-topping Tekna+ gets leather upholstery, Bose sound sytem and a massage function for the front seats.

“The Nissan Qashqai has been the best-seller in its class since 2007, and for good reason. Now with the arrival of the third generation model, Nissan is setting a new crossover standard for distinctive design, dynamic handling and advanced technologies, all at an accessible and attractive price point. Consumers want uncompromising comfort, connectivity and safety from their personal mobility – the new Qashqai absolutely delivers on all these requirements;” said Andrew Humberstone, Managing Director, Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd.
