As climate change gains momentum and our summers get hotter, it's time to let go of the emission heavy vehicles on our roads and welcome a new generation of zero-emission electric motors. Preferably one's like this e-NV200 ice cream van - a van that we could have all used in July when temperatures were touching 39 degrees!
Not only is this van kind on the environment, but also the children's lungs that queue for their cold sugary treat. Forget the fumes that come from an idling diesel engine and say hello to the emission free e-NV200.
As ULEZ limits the accessibility for ice cream vans and other vans alike within the ultra low emissions zone, not all is lost thanks to ice-cream producers Mackies of Scotland. This prototype ice cream van is the first in the country, fitted with a soft serve machine, freezer drawer and drinks fridge. Ice creams are served from a hatch that opens in the side of the vehicle, with a tap-and-pay contactless payment system mounted on the side of the vehicle.
Currentlye the van can travel up to 124 miles between charges, thanks to its 40 kWh battery. Equipment on board the van is powered buy Nissan's Energy ROAM portable power pack, which can be charged using the rood mounted solar panels.
Hopefully we'll be seeing more of these vans in the future.
