MG strengthens UK market position with new large SUV PHEV offering

Latest Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) data shows MG continuing to outperform the wider UK market, firmly established as a top-ten brand by registrations and market share. The brand’s sustained growth is underpinned by strong demand across both retail and fleet channels, with electrified models—particularly plug-in hybrids and EVs—playing a central role in driving volume and maintaining competitive market positioning.

This momentum is further supported by the introduction of the all-new MGS9 PHEV, expanding MG’s presence into the large SUV segment.

All-new MGS9 PHEV enters the 7-seat SUV segment

The new MGS9 PHEV marks MG’s first entry into the seven-seat large SUV category, offering a spacious and versatile interior designed to meet the needs of families and business users alike. With three rows of seating and up to 1,026 litres of boot space in five-seat configuration, the model delivers significant practicality within a competitive price bracket.

Powered by a plug-in hybrid system combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 24.7kWh battery, the MGS9 PHEV offers up to 62 miles of electric-only driving. This supports low-emission daily use while retaining the flexibility of extended range for longer journeys—an increasingly important consideration for UK customers.

Available in Comfort and Premium trims, the MGS9 PHEV includes a high level of standard specification, with features such as dual 12.3” displays, panoramic roof, heated seats, and advanced connectivity, reinforcing MG’s reputation for delivering strong value.

Fleet insight: MG

MG remains a highly competitive brand within the fleet sector, driven by its compelling total cost of ownership, broad electrified line-up, and strong warranty offering. The introduction of the MGS9 PHEV adds a new dimension to MG’s fleet appeal, particularly for operators requiring larger vehicles with seven-seat capability. Its low CO₂ emissions and extended electric range make it well suited to company car drivers and salary sacrifice schemes, while its pricing positions it as an accessible alternative to more premium-badged rivals. MG’s established UK dealer network and aftersales support further enhance its suitability for fleet adoption.

Product expansion and capability

The MGS9 PHEV builds on MG’s growing portfolio of electrified vehicles, complementing existing models such as the MG HS PHEV. As the most versatile MG to date, it combines practicality, technology, and efficiency, targeting both family buyers and business users needing flexibility.

Additional features including a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, advanced driver assistance systems, and configurable MG Pilot functionality further strengthen its proposition in a competitive segment.

With first customer deliveries commencing from March, the MGS9 PHEV represents an important addition to MG’s UK line-up as the brand continues to expand into higher-value vehicle segments.
