The Nissan Interstar, the largest model in the brand’s UK light commercial vehicle line-up and available with both diesel and fully electric powertrains, has been awarded ‘Large Van of the Year’ at the prestigious What Van? Awards 2026. The judging panel praised the Interstar for its strong blend of practicality, refinement and driver comfort.
Introduced to the UK market last year—and recently securing a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating—the latest-generation Interstar has been engineered to be the most advanced and versatile offering in Nissan’s LCV range. Designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of operators, the van is available with an extensive catalogue of factory conversions, including dropside, tipper, Luton and Low Luton variants. This versatility ensures businesses can configure the vehicle precisely to their operational requirements.
Owners also benefit from Nissan’s generous five-year / 100,000-mile warranty and five years of roadside assistance, offering reassurance and lower running costs throughout ownership.
A major milestone for Nissan’s commercial lineup, the Interstar is the company’s first large van to offer a fully electric powertrain without compromising on capability. The electric version provides smooth, quiet performance ideal for urban environments and can travel up to 285 miles on a single charge. For customers preferring combustion power, the updated diesel variant delivers efficient low-CO₂ performance and is available with either a new nine-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.
Across the range, businesses can choose from three lengths, three heights, and payload capacities of up to 1.6 tonnes for the electric model and 1.9 tonnes for the diesel. With a maximum cargo volume of 14.8 cubic metres, the Interstar is designed to accommodate the demands of almost any trade or transport need.
The What Van? Awards are recognised as the UK’s most important independent honours for commercial vehicles. Each year, a panel of experts drawn from across the LCV sector evaluates the contenders before announcing the winners at a London ceremony.
Explaining the panel’s decision, James Dallas, Editor of What Van?, said: “The Nissan Interstar is practical, refined, handles well on the road and offers a comfortable working environment. Its multi-energy platform means operators can choose the fuel type that best suits their needs.”
Accepting the award, Allan Newman, LCV Product Manager at Nissan GB, described the Interstar as “the ultimate ally for the businesses that keep society running.” He added: “With an all-electric variant, strong load capacity and a wide range of conversion options, it provides exactly what the UK’s everyday champions—our SMEs—need to keep the economy moving. We’re delighted to receive this recognition from What Van? and thank the judges for highlighting Interstar’s many strengths.”
With its breadth of configurations, modern technology and now an award-winning reputation, the Nissan Interstar reinforces its position as a highly capable and dependable partner for businesses across the UK
