The Nissan LEAF Batteries to Power Streetlights

What happens to old electric battery packs when they are no longer fit for use in the cars they were built for? Well, Nissan are building them into wireless streetlights. The whole point of electric cars such as the new LEAF is to leave as small a carbon footprint as possible, and save a few quid along the way. Nissan instead of deconstructing the batteries are putting them into good use, lighting places, some that had to previously go unlit, in an incredibly sustainable way. The light requires no electric wire or outlet, and in the case of an emergency, electricity will be readily available.
