New Honda Prelude Showcases ‘Unlimited Glide’ Philosophy

Honda has revealed more details about the all-new Prelude e, a hybrid sports coupe designed around the concept of “Unlimited Glide” — a philosophy inspired by the elegance, efficiency and freedom of modern gliders.

Blending sleek coupe styling with Honda’s latest hybrid technology, the new Prelude aims to deliver a smooth yet engaging driving experience that combines performance, refinement and efficiency. Central to this is Honda’s advanced e hybrid system and the introduction of the brand’s innovative Honda S+ Shift technology.

To celebrate the Prelude’s arrival in Europe, Honda demonstrated the car’s capability by using it to tow a real glider into the air. Powered by its 184PS hybrid powertrain, the Prelude required only a specially adapted tow hook to launch the aircraft, highlighting both the strength and efficiency of the new model.

Inspired by the Freedom of Flight

The idea behind “Unlimited Glide” was developed by Prelude project leader Tomoyuki Yamagami, whose passion for gliders dates back to childhood memories of flying a radio-controlled glider built by his grandfather.

That early fascination with the graceful, effortless nature of gliding flight became a major influence on the design and engineering direction of the new Prelude.

Yamagami later fulfilled a lifelong ambition by flying a real glider as an adult — an experience that further shaped his vision for the car.

“It was smooth and clean, yet responsive and dynamic,” Yamagami recalled. “The blue sky and white clouds from my childhood memories, and the excitement of flying a model glider in the big blue sky, all came flooding back. A glider is an intelligent form of mobility that can fly endlessly, with nature as its ally. This led to the grand concept of ‘Unlimited Glide’, which perfectly suited the Prelude as a new vision of a sports car.”

Honda says the concept reflects its ambition to engineer vehicles that create emotional connections with drivers while delivering everyday usability and efficiency.

Hybrid Performance with Sports Coupe Character

The new Prelude e combines engaging driving dynamics with the refinement expected from Honda’s latest electrified models.

Featuring a wide, low stance and suspension technology derived from the Civic Type R, the Prelude has been engineered to deliver responsive handling and stability. Adaptive dampers and the latest version of Honda’s Agile Handling Assist system are also included to enhance agility and cornering performance.

Power comes from Honda’s full hybrid e system, pairing a 2.0-litre petrol engine with a lightweight dual-motor electric transmission. Producing 315Nm of torque, the system is designed to deliver strong acceleration alongside smooth and efficient performance.

Honda says the driving experience mirrors the effortless movement of a glider carried by thermal currents and strong winds, balancing performance with refinement.

Driver-Focused Interior

Inside, the Prelude continues the “Unlimited Glide” philosophy with a cabin focused on visibility, comfort and simplicity.

The interior features a clean, uncluttered layout combined with premium materials and a driver-oriented cockpit design intended to create a greater sense of connection between car and driver.

Honda says the new Prelude has been developed to deliver the brand’s traditional “joy of driving” while reflecting its broader “Your Dreams Engineered” philosophy through a blend of advanced technology, usability and emotional appeal.
