MG Charges Ahead at Goodwood Festival of Speed

MG made a bold statement at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, unveiling two of its most advanced electric vehicles to date: the MG IM5 executive saloon and the MG IM6 SUV. These models represent a significant step forward for the brand, showcasing MG’s vision for future mobility under the new “IM” badge, which stands for Intelligence in Motion.

Designed for drivers who expect more from electric driving, the IM5 and IM6 combine high performance with cutting-edge technology and design. David Allison, MG’s Head of Product and Planning, described the IM range as the next step in delivering innovation and technology leadership, following the success of the MG Cyberster convertible.

The MG IM5 Long Range offers up to 441 miles of range thanks to its 100kWh battery and sits on an all-new 800V electric architecture. This allows for ultra-fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in just 17 minutes. Both the IM5 and IM6 feature MG’s new dual-motor Hurricane electric powertrain, enabling rapid acceleration of 0 to 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds and 3.5 seconds respectively. A digital chassis ensures agile handling and a dynamic driving experience.

Inside, the IM range delivers a premium and intelligent cabin experience. Each car features a panoramic roof, a bespoke 20-speaker audio system including ceiling-mounted Sky Speakers, and a stunning 26.3-inch ultra-HD infotainment display supported by a 10.5-inch touchscreen. Innovative technologies include Rainy Night Mode and One Touch Park Assist, which uses 360-degree cameras and autonomous systems to perform complex parking manoeuvres with ease. The IM5 also introduces rear-wheel turning technology, reducing the turning circle to just under 10 metres and making urban driving simpler than ever.

MG has confirmed six versions for the UK market, offering both 75kWh and 100kWh battery options with single- and dual-motor configurations. The MG IM5 starts at £39,450 for the Standard model, while the Long Range and Performance variants are priced at £44,995 and £48,495 respectively. The IM6 SUV begins at £47,995, with the top-spec Launch Edition available at £52,995.

Also drawing attention at Goodwood was the return of the MG Cyberster in a striking new finish. The Cyberster Black features a deep matte black paint infused with ultra-fine glass particles that shimmer in motion. Designed by MG’s Vice President of SAIC Design, Jozef Kaban, the model blends sleek chrome elements with a fully blacked-out interior for a dramatic look.

MG also revealed the Cyber X, a compact electric concept that hints at the future of MG’s Cyber design language. With a rugged, city-focused design, matte grey finish and pop-up headlights, it previews MG’s potential in the urban EV space.

Finally, MG celebrated its rallying heritage with the debut of the MG EX4, a reimagined Metro 6R4 using the electric drivetrain from the MG4 XPower. The EX4 showcases MG’s ability to blend heritage with innovation.
